Tom Ford Beauty Discussion

I started having that feeling that Tom Ford is going to be like MAC, a lot of limited items released in small amounts, hard to get hold of. (they are anyway owned both by EL)

I really hope they don't because with those prices I have no additional drive to run after something if things sell out the first day they are released!

If he would release them like Nars did the Audacious line - where they're all perm but some are exclusive - then I would be all for it. I've been craving a larger line of lip products from TF for awhile, so that would be awesome. But all 50 LE? No. Even at thirty-something dollars a pop as opposed to $50, how many could you reasonably afford to buy before they sell out? That's too many lippies to sell at once as LE IMO.

One other thing I do hope is that it's the same TF formula just in a smaller size. I hope TF doesn't sacrifice the quality of these minis in order to put out bigger collections/more LE items at a lower price point.

I'm disappointed that TF is doing something ties to the 50 Shades franchise. It seems tacky for such a high end brand. The naughty names are one thing, but doing a studio movie thing damages the brand in my eyes. You don't see Guerlain, Chanel or YSL doing anything like that. Or Nars, for that matter.

i was told there will be 30 shades in the mini size (same as a mini cherry lush that is super cute but I would NOT pay $32 dollars for!) there will be 30 named with boys names whom TF worked on some movies with - heard it will be out before christmas i know 4 shade names but no clue on pricing 18 addison 19 james 25 giacomo 32 matthew it seems like our rumors are all pretty close and if I find out more i will post back! you girls are too quick!!

Is the idea that we need to buy significant others for our NARS Audacious lipsticks?
lol.gif
Thats what I did Winthrop---just so happened the lipsticks were also colors that I love

I'm w/SB. So far I've been fortunate enough to get the TF ltd-ed items that I've wanted, but I have no interest in chasing products in the 'Mac Mode.'
I haven't shopped a MAC collection in quite some time. I'm so over it!!!

there is no way that they could possibly charge $32 for those mini lippies i pay a lot for m/u and i would NEVER pay $32 for a sample!! i hope nothing like MAC, who could keep up? i really hope this is a cute christmas goodie! i could see 3 in a bag for $32 perhaps.......the boys names are just TF being TF, my jaw dropped at last campaign pics and not much shocks me! i think he just pushes the envelope and that's what some artist's do loved your post on FNN chanel polish sweet star! what do y'all like better sweet star or atomsphere? or neither? (i know they don't look alike but if you could only get one!)

It seems that's what has happened with the TF mattes---all but two are permanent, and they appear to be the best sellers. That strategy might work well for the
company's bottom line but that will cause me to leave a brand faster than you can say limited edition.

I agree. And it's such a shame because if TF did a perm line of lippies named after guys that wasn't 50 Shades-related, it would be such a hit. What a cute idea.

But because the line is tied to a movie/book (and one of dubious reputation at that) it makes it feel like a cheap marketing ploy. It also pretty much guarantees the line will be limited. An odd move, for sure.

Well a bit different because with the mattes TF made 2 limited, not exclusive. With Nars, none are limited - only 10 are exclusive to Barneys/Nars. Although exclusives are a pain, they're certainly preferable to LEs. With a line of 40, Nars can probably afford not to make any exclusive because the wide selection will ensure sales. With only 8 mattes released, it doesn't surprise me he made 2 LE to boost sales. But if you're coming out with a line of 50 lipsticks - I don't care what size - it's insane to me to make them all LE. From a consumer's standpoint (at least from this consumer's standpoint LOL), it feels manipulative. Well who am I kidding ALL LEs feel manipulative! That's why I've been such a fan of the Nars Audacious line. Kudos to them for the way they launched it.

I love them both but if you were only getting one I'd go with Sweet Star. Atmosphere is a bit more work for opacity and I think Sweet Star is a more interesting color. Both are lovely though.

Haha yes I totally agree, in a perfect world everything would be available everywhere for an unlimited period of time. Are you listening TF? We like to dream in this thread, don't we?

ABSOLUTELY! I purchased several items form the Guerlain holiday collection and I already use Guerlain lipstick, foundation, bronzing powder and Météorites I also purchased most of Chanel's holiday collection and happen to be a regular user of Chanel makeup & skin care. I also use Charlotte Tilbury"s Wonder Glow & Film Star Bronze & Glow, both of which I enjoy immensely. I only have one of her lipsticks but I'd consider purchasing others. I guess I don't have absolute brand loyalty and it's now more about what the brand can do for me.
