Okay so I'm not crazy when I was thinking bronzer essentially goes where you would highlight. I always learned you bronzed where the sun would naturally hit so high points of your face. That said, I've never bronzed b/c I'm not sure how that would help my look. (Why, exactly, would someone my shade bronze? Just curious.) I do want to learn to contour though. Any good tutorials?
i only started last year since i had similar doubts, but it actually looks really nice and adds a bit of warmth to the complexion!

Oh yes the jawline. I've never highlighted that and I don't mess with my forehead too much either. Having oily skin I don't need to add extra shine. Of course I tan. I tan very easily. I guess that's why I never thought to fake the "sun's kiss." My tans last for months even from a single prolonged exposure to the sun. My tan from one day in July didn't fully fade until Jan/Feb. It's never occurred to me that I should look more tanned than I am. Does that make sense?
Makes sense. Tanning is bad for your skin, and skin cancer runs in my family, so i just avoid it completely. Not worth it to me.

Yup! That's part of the contour placement. Funny thing, contouring varies person to person, but if you look on YT, EVERYONE contours in the exact same place. Kills me every time!

I dont do it because I dont know exactly how but I didn't know that it varied, I assumed that since "everyone" does it like that ("3") then that must be the correct way which sucks because now we have a bunch of misinformed newbies like myself....

Sorry for the dumb question but what do you mean "oval faces coutouring the crap out their cheeks"? is that because they have to cheeks.....slender noses I get though, its like how much slender do you want your nose to be woman (Michal Jackson comes to mind)? lol I dont do it because I dont know exactly how but I didn't know that it varied,  I assumed that since "everyone" does it like that ("3") then that must be the correct way which sucks because now we have a bunch of misinformed newbies like myself....
People with fuller faces who contour generally do so to create the look of a more slender face, by creating cheekbones that aren't there. But many people, including those who already have slender, narrow faces (and don't need to contour their cheeks) or prominent cheekbones do so cuz so many YT vids show them that that's the way to contour. They aren't told that that's just ONE way to contour, and not necessarily the way for THEIR face. Similar concept as the nose, to make it more slender. But when it's already naturally slender, there's no need to do so. You have to take each facial part, YOUR facial part, into consideration, when contouring. Does that help?

Oval faces should already be slender so slenderizing it more could be overkill. Same with your nose. If your nose is slender no need to slenderize it more. Makes no sense.

Jinx!

erine would you recommend an oval face focus on highlighting rather than contouring the cheeks?

Hell yeah girl! I'm oval, and highlight the crap outta my face!!! Cheekbones, temples, a light swipe down the nose, and cupids bow if I'm feelin like it. I skip the chin, which can easily look oily. During fall/winter i just stick to the cheekbones tho. Gotta keep it season appropriate. And watch what texture you use too. Nothing too glittery or chunky. A nice fine shimmer/sheen.

I just embrace my jelliness. Never bronze. Never tan. Never change colour. It's so much easier!
Me too. I try to avoid adding extra stress on my skin. I don't want to look like a wrinkled old handbag when I'm older....I'm looking at you aunt Janet. The only thing I do is add a touch of contour under my cheekbones to add a little extra definition to my chubby cheeks.

Okay good. I'm oval and that's what I've been doing (including skipping the chin LOL). I never quite got around to trying contour and was afraid that I was actually skipping a step by not doing it. My nose is the only thing I'd try to slenderize, but I don't own a shade dark enough to make a difference. I'm not sure how many deeper shades to go and what type of product to use. A lot of people use stick foundations or heavy concealer. I have oily skin in my t-zone so there's no way I'd want a heavy product there. Unfortunately I bought the Chanel contouring powder for kicks, but never really got the hang of it so it sits in the drawer.

Powder is the easiest, and the best texture when oily, or use cream and set with translucent powder. 2 shades darker is a good starting point. But highlighting (2 shades lighter) is also a good way to achieve a similar look. It all depends on just how much of a change you wanna make. If you feel like your nose needs a lot of reshaping, contouring and highlighting both is a good idea. If you just wanna take it in in the sides, contour. If you feel like the width is fine but it needs more height, just highlight.

There are some product pics posted a few pages back by honi.

Fellow veteran? The nex in my area def doesn't carry Mac. I think they have BM, Lancôme stuff.
I'm a Marine so im usually stationed next to a navy base but no none of the Nex I have been in have ever carried any mac. But the Nex usually have benefit or Nars. Marine Corps Exchanges only carry bare minerals, lancome, estee lauder and clinque. I always get my brush cleaner from Estee lauder because its practically the same thing as MACs for like $12 and tax free. lately tho i have been going crazy here in hawaii Nex with the Nars new satin lip pencils and eyeshadows! $21 ea no tax
