I recommend Clinique all About Lips and Biotherm Aquasource Levres- I use both at night before bed (Clinique first then Biotherm) which has worked very well for me- the Clinique product leaves lips very smooth and soft and is very gentle. I am about to run out of the Biotherm product and am now trialling L'Occitane's organic lip balms which I am yet to form an opinion on...but the Clinique All About Lips is something I have used for years prior to a balm and I find it to be amazing. http://www.clinique.com.au/product/1683/5163/Skincare/Eye_Lips/All-About-Lips/index.tmpl Good luck - there are solutions :)
Thanks! I'll have to try that! My lips are smooth and soft before I use lipstick, they go flakey as the hours go by!

Hey all, I've been so busy and haven't had much time to write about the Huggables. I see T has put up swatches but this time they really are not very accurate, unfortunately. They are all reaaaaaaallly washed out looking, like she applied them and blotted them all the way down before taking the photo. On me, most of the colors are much richer, with deeper and brighter color. Not everything she photographed was off, but most of the bright and deeps ones sure were. I think it might be due to the glossy finish they all have, bouncing light off in a weird way and washing out the photos. Her tube photos are much better. I'll talk about the formula in another post, but I wanted to throw this out there first.

Ugh! How do I go from willing to try a couple... to thinking I can skip it all... and now wanting everything?!?

OK here we go. Again, sorry not to have this info sooner for everyone! #1: This formula is NOTHING like Sheen Supreme. It's a gel based lipstick with extra moisturizing in it. I'd say it's a merging of different technology that's been played around with bit by bit over the years, but this time they hit all the main bullet points just right. It's not a silicone based product. We looked on the ingredients list. Mica is the binder, not silicone. There's a polymer in there that we figured is the main thing giving the texture it's spreading and setting ability. So what the heck is it like? Straight from the tube to your lips, it almost feels a bit stiff, but it instantly softens as it touches the lips. This is really nice because it's got the right amount of stiffness that you can get a good line as you edge your lips, but it's very smooth and spreadable and doesn't skip or drag. In fact it glides on and SERIOUSLY hides lip lines. This makes even some of the colors that are very much dupable (Touche is an almost perfect dupe of Luxe Naturale Mineralize lipstick, for example, just a teeny touch darker) much better than what's come before. The other thing the texture does is it sets up really firmly and quickly, so that there's no feathering, even though it's so moist, and no greasiness. Finally, while you're going to get transference on the edge of your glass if you take a drink, there is enough pigment and it sets up firmly enough, that basic eating and drinking doesn't make the color or texture wear off. The wear time compared to Sheen Supreme is dramatically better. In fact, this formula is MUCH more like a cross between the look and application of the Mineralize Lipsticks and the texture, holding power and blotting options of the Mineralize Lip Balm, with much more hydration than either of them. The blotting and staining ability is one thing that really makes these extra handy. You know how with the Mineralize Lip Balms, you can blot them down to remove most of the gloss, just leaving a moist effect, without removing any of the color? You can totally do that here too, which is awesome. Then, if you want to, you can blot down even more and you have a stain that unlike a lot of stains, isn't patchy at all, and stays very true to the original color, even with the deeper shades (rather than turning pink or orange or something). REALLY nice and very youthful and modern. Lastly, the hydration is no joke. I seriously had to use Cleanse Off Oil to get each color off my lips before trying the next one, because they grip on so much, but even when trying to rub off with a tissue (not easy because of the way it sets on the lips), my lips felt soft after. I went in with sort of cracked lips, and by the time I was done trying everything, my lips were nice and smooth and soft. These are definitely more moisturizing on me than even the Mineralize lip balms. The comfort factor was more similar to those lip stains that came in the clicky pens at the end of the summer. I loved those for what they did to my lips and their staying power, but the pH color adjustment thing they did was problematic, since you were never sure what color you were going to wind up with on your lips by the middle of the day. No problem with that here. I haven't tried those Marc Jacobs gel lipsticks, but I wonder if these may be in the same zone? $20 is a good price for the Huggables, for sure, and I wouldn't be sorry if the Mineralize Lip Balms don't come back, if these were made perm instead. the MLBs were my favorites this year for when I wanted a youth giving look and didn't want to tear up my lips, but these are much more controllable, more pigmented, more color variety etc. etc. I'm getting more of them than expected and really hope they decide to bring more out with the sort of bouncy fun colors you get in the Sheen Supremes.

Well, damn. Just when I thought I'd skip because I hated the bullet shape. Now I want!! Does the bullet smush when it touches your lip like Sheen Supreme? I have the worst time with that.

No, they feel stiff and firm. They soften as you glide them over the lip, but they don't get smooshy instantly the way the SS do. It's much easier to get a crisp edge to your lips as you apply them. They're not greasy feeling at all. All in all, very different from the Sheen Supremes - people need to get over the form factor, because that's pretty much the only thing the two have.

There are quite a few colors that are similar to the ones in MN. Rusty is really gorgeous and pretty much the same thing as Carnal Instinct, instead of frost you get a deep, stained glass sort of look. A lot of people will prefer the way Out For Passion looks to Morning Rose (I actually prefer Out For Passion on me more than Venus or Gem of Roses - it really makes my green eyes pop). Touche is a soft pale nude that you could easily wear instead of of the MN nudes. My favorite colors didn't always turn out to be the ones I expected. Commotion is so beautiful. It's just like Color Saturation csg, which happens to be one of my favorites shades. This texture is so much nicer than just a gloss, and of course, unlike gloss, it doesn't settle or feather or wear off instantly if you eat or drink. I thought I was going to love Cherry Glaze and Red Necessity, but they weren't the most flattering reds for me. Instead Rusty and Commotion (which isn't red, but is plenty vampy) were the ones that looked best. I am still considering them, but they'd look better in the summer when I have more of a tan. Another one I was on the fence with was Feeling Amorous? It's a great fuchsia but I honestly don't need any more of that color and for me, it just wasn't quite right - it will be so much more awesome on deeper skin tones and probably way better on NWs just in general. I did LOVE Fresh & Frisky a TON! It's like Runway Hit, but in this formula. Totally love it!!! Also I am going to get Rich Marron, which wasn't as much like Go For It csg as I was hoping, but is very similar to Posh Tone Mineralize Lipstick, just a little deeper and more than a little cooler-toned. I will get a ton of use out of it, so it's staying. Touche is totally a dupe for Luxe Naturale Mineralize Lipstick, but unlike LN, which never seemed quite right on me and I'd keep skipping, Touche blends really well with your natural lip color, personalizing it just enough without its own color getting lost. What A Feeling is very much in the same vein as stuff like Pink Popcorn, so if you were running out of that one, What A Feeling will be coming right in time. Love Beam was also a very nice cute pink, that was suitable for the texture. Fashion Force was very similar to Out For Passion, except it's the coral version. I usually do better in coral than pink, but in this particlar case OFP brought out my eyes more than FF, so out of the two I'll take OFP. FF will be better at bringing out blue eyes, I think. It's very much like Ever Hip, so all of you who need some more of that are going to be really happy. I'm going to get Commotion, Rusty (instead of Carnal Desire), Rich Marron, Fresh & Frisky and Out For Passion (I honestly prefer the way OFP looks on me to the way Morning Rose does, but I'm going to get them both, since they're pretty different shades). I'm considering Touche and one of the reds, maybe Red Necessity, but I'm probably going to skip them.

oh and let me just add - i just checked out karen's blog and all the colors are much more vibrant and pigmented in person compared to her lip swatches too. I am convinced they're just super hard to photograph, due to the really deep, stained glass effect you get with them at full strength.

Well that tears it. Consider me in. Moisturizing and easier to apply than sheen supreme, yes. Thanks, lovely!

Hi Liba, I guess you haven't worn it enough to know how the hydration evolves throughout the day, but I'm curious about the comfort level when it dries down to a stain. The gel stains from the Ungaro collection all those years back (I think it was 2008?) were awfully drying the moment they set. It swore me off MAC stains.

Also, are you familiar with YSL lip lacquers? If so, any notes to compare with these?

It felt great until I took it off, which had to be at least 5 hours later. I left the store wearing Touche (wanted to wear Commotion, but Touche was one I was on the fence about so I decided to wear that one out). I ate some sushi too! The stain feels exactly like when you blot down the Mineralize lip balm - not remotely dry. The color held fast well, even though it was Touche, which is so light. These aren't what I would call a traditional stain at all. They're highly pigmented lipstick/balm hybrids with some extra setting ability due to a polymer gel base. Old fashioned stains tended to have an alcohol base and of course were harsh. I haven't tried the YSL lip lacquers, but I will say these are not really like the Kissable Lip Colours - those did not have a balm texture and were pretty much a satin finish from straight out of the tube to full dry down.

Thank you! I think I'll probably get one to try out its texture. I just haven't been very wowed by MAC's new formulations in the last 4 or so years. They've mostly been crapcakes... except for this year's Mineralized lipstick. The balm I did like, but it was a bit too thick. Hate that they always try to fix things that aren't broken... like taking away my lip conditioner in a jar. Jerks, messing with my skincare ritual! *shakes fist*

I miss fuchsia fix lip conditioner! It was an everyday staple!
