Just because over all most places have tightened their policies even the almighty nordstrom. Consumers may feel entitled to returns but it's a huge loss in the cosmetics industry. These big companies are all about more money. Not to mention a lot of other first world countries have tighter cosmetic laws then the U.S. So I wouldn't be surprised if things just start to change yah know?
Companies have insurance policies to recoup some of their losses from returns. The items returned are marked damaged and they make claims. This coverage is a part of policies they have in place generous return policy or not. If the item doesn't work for you when you get home, in your lighting, return it if you have to. I mean if clothing items don't fit we take those back too. Companies better chill.

Hahaha I had a laugh with my morning time Specktra read through and my coffee. Buahahahah I have all the pictures stored in my phone! Maybe the Feds will come to the house and bark at me? Maybe Mac will remotely erase my phone? Oh the possibilities. They gotta chill. Leaks make us get more involved.

Cheez, this whole returnable thing is NEW in the US, compared to how things were with cosmetics a few decades ago. So making cosmetics harder to return won't be new, just a return to how things were before - what? - the mid-1990s? That's only 20 years ago.

I remember trying to find foundations that worked for me in the 1970s and 1980s. I tested them in the dept stores - and i mean, high end ones - but the lighting was unbelievably terrible - it was SO DARK!. So I kept ending up with colors that were too dark and too yellow for my skin, plus they turned orange on me. Ugh. And none of that expensive crap was returnable.

Nordstrom tightened its return policy because of customer abuse. People would bring back stuff they'd used the heck out of, then complain. I remember hearing women talking about buying fancy expensive dresses to wear to New Year's Eve parties, then taking them back a few days after the party. Sheesh! If something doesn't fit or the color looks bad, fine, return it. But to use stuff - like shoes until they nearly have holes in the soles - and say they didn't work out, that's just bold faced lying. No wonder stores are changing their policies.

The ONLY thing i've ever returned to MAC was a Studio Sculpt Foundation. It looked OK when the MUA put it on me in the store - and there's natural light there, so i'm thankful it isn't like the 70s and 80s - and the color was... OK. But within an hour or so my skin was so dry and matte - even tho i HAD used skin care including moisturizer - that i looked like an old desert tortoise - it made my skin look shriveled and dry, cracked and crazed from drought. I was SO HAPPY i could take it back and not have wasted my money.

I have only regretted one MAC purchase, a lipstick i bought it thinking it was a different one in the same collection whose name had the same number of syllables. I still have it because I ordered it from the website and didn't want to pay return shipping. Only tried it once and never wore it. I guess it'll go in my B2M baggie.

Exactly.. and, in those days, retailers made a profit. Today, it's a high risk enterprise to be in retail.

very true sss215.. but insurance is not cheap and rates have increased exponentially.  In fact, part of the rationale in tightening returns again is that the rates for ins have soared, thus making the whole return issue unviable.  As you noted, the companies recoup "some" losses from returns.. but that's what's covered by ins.. and if ins goes up, their losses will increase.  As it is, the larger stores are still suffering and don't make enough profits to maintain the operations they run. I agree with returning unused and undamaged products but to return something after you have worn it for a week, is simply deception. sorry. again.... this is my work and even if it were not, I could not agree to a lot of the too liberal return policies. Exactly. When stores are loosing everyone has to pay the price for it. I was giving my opinion from working in a retail store (not cosmetic) and having to take returns, fill out the forms, send them to the big office. Talking about it at the big meetings. It's just inevitable. Returns are just an ugly cycle. Not everyone abuses them but everyone pays the price. Macs has a very liberal return policy, they're tarting to change it slowly with the return labels but people should except more changes in the future

I've only ever returned one MAC item to Nordstrom in my whole life, and it is also the MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation which broke me out like hell. I was so happy I could return it so easily too.

They don't! My brother once told me to buy my mac from ebay because it's way better priced and that his wife gets hers there! She have me a "pigment" when I was younger. I never used it because something was just off and this was pre-makeup knowledge days. My mom gave me goldmine at the time and it was the same color so I never even went back to using it. Once I learned about makeup I went and look at her pigments and makeup. ALL FAKE!! Her pigments have sticker on the bottom that just say a10 b6 things like that

In Aus we don't get nearly as many price rises as the US.

however if it means tighter returns = less price rises I'm all for it...

some of my fave YT's just haul haul haul then say they werent sure at the time when they purchased it, will probably return it... Dont fkn buy it if your not sure (sorry for the language), I think a lot of the time it is an excuse for why they couldn't afford it... why should the rest of us be paying for this, because believe me! we are!!!

end of rant

That's what I thought... but someone said they will find out what's in that compact when the promo pic clearly shows 2 bronzers and 2 EDSF? There's a closed compact, but I think that's just a shot of the bronzer with the lid closed like I said.

OMG how did I miss this pic?? Do we have a color story yet?
