And i just realized you said you like me and that made me laugh and smile at the same time. I don't dislike a person just because I happen to disagree with them on something. I have no enemies here. I mean, I was accused of being curt earlier and I can't control the tone in which people read my posts, but just know that I don't get riled up over things on the internet. :)

Indeed, there's nothing wrong with disagreeing. I enjoy the discussions no matter. Our personal experiences do tend to shape how we feel about things (and I have worked in retail, too actually). It's all good.
Ditto. I mean I get annoyed over some things online but nothing concerning makeup! I just didn't want it to seem like I came off as rude or anything it's really not that serious. I'm more serious about this half baked in my hands than mac forums lol

Nah. If I thought you were being rude I would've asked you about it first (or just ignored you ).

Yeah, pretty much. Scrolling is a wonderful option on the internet. I wish I had it in life.

I guess it's not sanity..it's sanitation. But be that as it may, insurance does not ever cover it "all".  Most people return on whims.. and that is a loss right there.  Companies lose a lot of money and guess what?  they up prices on each and every item, each and every year.. 50 cents, 1.00, 2.00 incements.  So, even if you do not return, you are paying for all those who do. I have also read that You tuber gurus use products, show them, and sometimes even say they "might" return.  They should be sued.
I read my post again and thought to myself "wait... Why did I type sanity?" Maybe I was wishing for some. It sounds like those You Tube people buy them just to make a video, then return them? That's awful! That's like the people who but a dress just to wear to an event and then return it. I could never do that. I'm going to think of this from now on when I hear someone say they're returning something just because they changed their mind.

I've been preaching this forever, but there are still a lot of returned items. And yes, we all pay for these items. I've stated this before endless times. I understand that people make mistakes when they buy a product "blind" online, but it should be at your own risk.

What really drives me insane when products that absolutely needed to be swatched in person, i.e. nudes (e/s and l/s) and foundations - both categories need to be tried in person. Period! - are bought and then returned. Think before you buy. It's imperative!

The pics are nice but the collection may be a skip for me.
I'm going to be more careful than last summer's Tropical Taboo. I bought many of the TT items (including bu's), and I'm still using them. So happy that I have them--I still love the quads from TT, and the MSF's. Love those blushes. Plus I bought all the EDSF's from Magnetic Nude. They're all amazing, I love what I have, but I'm nowhere near using them up.

I want something in the AA's packaging, though. I'm thinking one bronzer (I skipped TT's bronzers), maybe the EDSF's cause I'm an addict. Depending on the texture and finish, 1-2 of the lipsticks (not if they're sheer, though). So not too much MAC's big summer collection year.

I'm going to go crazy for the Pedro Lourenço though.

This makes so much sense. Most of my foundation hits/misses are found through samples too--nordstrom is really good about giving 1-2 days worth, sometimes in 2-3 different shades.

I can imagine this happens a lot when people buy on impulse, then re-think.

Some items I've been receiving lately from some companies have had plastic shrink-wrap or paper seals that get broken when the product is opened. This won't help 100% of the time, but maybe 10%? 5%? I don't seem to interfere with the aesthetic too much (armani's doing it with its CC creams, it looks fine). Several items from Marc Jacobs too. It actually helps me to know that the product hasn't been used then returned (especially at Sephora!!). I'd be fine if MAC did something similar.

So if I don't have a counter near me I shouldn't order nude products at all?
What brands like MAC, or in fact any other, should do to avoid most returns? Offer samples or mini sizes, in stores and especially online. There are lots of people who don't have a counter near them or can't go to one for whatever reason. And it's not the customers fault that LEs sell out in minutes, or that some collections are rediciously exclusive, so a lot of the times there isn't really much time to think your purchase through. And not everyone knows about collections weeks ahead like us Specktrettes who invest a lot of time in this.
Swatches and descriptions on websites that are off adding to all of that, or repromotes that don't even look like the original.
Plus, german MAC prices are a lot higher (I know other countries have it even worse). I won't keep a $27+ lipstick that is drying, patchy, etc. I did in the past and I'm a little tired of the hassle of selling it on ebay or trying to swap it. When I think about it, the brand I've returned most is MAC. I can only think of two high end brand returns (and some because the item was broken/faulty). For me personally, sometimes the quality that I expect is just not there. The only thing I can do is spend hours trying to find swatches and reviews. But still a product might not work for me even though a lot of people recommend it, or it might even turn out the other way, that a lot of products work wonderfully on me where people said they absolutely do not on NW skintones...
If the product doesn't work for me, back it goes, and I don't feel bad about it.

I have to admit, I never - EVER buy something for packaging.. but I'll be buying a lipstick AND a bronzer at least from this collection just so I can have a super cute compact. Let me just say, I don't even wear bronzer.  Ever.  I don't even OWN a bronzer.  But I will.  Just for that adorable compact. I have such a hard time resisting anything blue.  Blue eye shadow is gonna be the death of me.. I have so many.  And green... and purple.. pink.. fuck it, I have a lot of ALL of it, but that's still besides the point.  ZOMG WANT.
All this talk of the compacts has made me want one too! I am officially on the compact train, whatever it is.

Return or don't return. It really doesn't matter. Companies always find a way or a reason to hike prices up. If the US had a "no return" policy people would still buy and they would still hike prices up. They are ALWAYS finding new ways to get into our pockets. It really kills me when people frown upon other people when they return something. I DO believe that some people are just nasty with it. And by that I mean those who actually buy something for a particular occasion then return or wear something down to the nub when its on it last bit of life then return it. Thats just nasty and all sorts of other things that I can't find more words for it.

But I HATE when I purchase something that I have no way of trying on in the store or the store's lighting is off and decide the next day (or sometimes even the same day if I have time) to return it and I get a nasty look from the sales person or even my own sister because she frowns upon tha too. Last time I checked I worked hard for my dollars and employment checks have not kept up with inflation prices. And I DO NOT feed into the BS that consumers (the ones that have made these makeup companies billions of dollars, because remember the makeup and the beauty industries are billion dollar industries) are the ones costing THEM so much money. If their insurance premiums go up, TRUST me they are not feeling the pinch because no matter what, they still make MORE THAN enough to pay for the small increase in their insurance premiums. It kills me when the economy starts to change, the first people we blame is our neighbors and it wasn't our neighbors who taxed the *ish out our ass every freaking pay check and every freaking item that is purchased.

Please do not worry about these makeup companies. If they were loosing more money than they were making, than they would have shut down many decades ago and we would have become scientist in our basement mixing all sorts of things with paints and color products from the arts store just to look pretty.

I'd love the idea of a sealed product.
