Here is an article I found, courtesy of "Racked". Nasty Gal head honcho Sophia Amoruso After news broke that Nasty Gal laid off over 20 employees last week, we looked into the company's Glassdoor reviews to find that many people did not, in fact, enjoy their time working with any of the brand's GirlBosses. After we posted some of the most scathing reviews, anonymous tips started to pour in from alleged past employees who shared the same sentiments. Here's a sampling of what came through the tip line: The layoffs were closer to 30 people and included employees that helped build the brand from the earliest days. Layoffs also included two pregnant women, just to demonstrate the company's class. They hope to break even if they are lucky this year but sales are down SIGNIFICANTLY from last year so doesn't seem likely. This isn't just about restructuring, layoffs are because the business is suffering. They even are going to have to sublet out a portion of their huge new office space because it was such a financial waste. Another tipper gave a more specific number of people laid off, although there are some discrepancies over the number of pregnant women involved: There were a total of 27 people laid off at Nasty Gal last Thursday, August 28, 2014. Nasty Gal let go of 3 pregnant women. One of them is 8 months pregnant and they made her come to the office to let her go. Sophia's friends are still there. Although we don't know what they do or who they report to. But they are still getting paid. One was even promoted to Social Media Manager. The other one was an Intern and now they created a job called "Trend Forecaster." Having worked at Nasty Gal, I think there's a goal behind these posts. 1) They pinpoint the same issue (Executive Management) and former employees hope that the CEO wakes up and fires them all since nothing is changing, their salaries are too high and everyone has confirmed that they're NOT EFFECTIVE. 2) Former employees who spent years of discomfort, fear of being let go and who were constantly disrespected, want to warn future applicants of what type of horrid environment they could be joining. To CEO, I say quit "cleaning house" by letting go of lower level workers and get rid of those useless execs you thought were awesome but actually ended up just being a bunch of self-serving opportunists. · Nasty Gal Employees Say Sophia Amoruso's a Bad GirlBoss [Racked] · Nasty Gal Lays Off Tech and PR Staffers [Racked]
