MAC Nasty Gal Collection (Dec 4, 2014)

I took a little bit of time to read quite a few of the Glassdoor reviews by current and past employees who work(ed) for Nasty Gal. They had some pretty bad things to say about that organization, with very consistent complaints across the board as to how they felt they were treated. I know that nothing in life is perfect, but I really don't like to support a business where they treat a big chunk of their employees in such disrespectful manner. It's just not acceptable.
I agree with you there. I'm dealing with a stressful work environment, so if it's that bad for ee's, I have to rethink this.

The Nasty Gal co. problem reminds me of Lisa Frank and that article that went into great detail about how awful it was to work there and among other things. From the looks of it, Nasty Gal is in deep water when it comes to basic HR and management, probably financial too if there's a 10K to check on their financial statements.

Lisa: We anticipate it to launch in November. Regrettably we do not have a confirmed date at this time.
Who knows what to make of all of this, but I heard from my favorate MAC lady that she read in Bloom Street yesterda, that Nasty Gal has laid off 27 people and is doing a restructure of her business. BTW, if you look at the Glass Door reviews (emplyoees), it sounds like a pretty carppy place to work. Hmm, even if the collection does drop, I am not wanting to inadevertly support a business that does not appreciate their employees. I wonder if MAC doesn't want to be associated with all of this press. It makes one wonder as well, if MAC has put the brakes on this collection for a bit until they can determine if they want to push forward or just scrap the whole idea. They could always do a slight reformulation, change the names, then slap it into another collection.

Rodarte curse?????

Nasty Girl is just... How to put it nicely? Well I can't put it nicely, nothing about that company or its products attracts me. So I have no interest in what they produce on any level. Rodarte, however insensitive in their collaboration with MAC, produces things I find beautiful and being of a morbid, gothic sensibility I wanted a part of that collection. It's OK to put me on blast, I'm just speaking my truth.

I doubt MAC would rethink the collection because of a bad PR move. I mean look at everything that surrounded Rihanna during her launches last year.

I agree. I don't know what's going on with this collab but once again, if it is supposed to come out within the next week or so, wouldn't we have heard more noise about it by now? And why is it that the small handful of people we've heard who have supposedly seen it are not saying much or releasing a swatch or two by now?

Just wanted to do a live chat one more time to see what they say. I had asked if the collection was going to come out next Thursday, the 18th and this is the response:

Judymay: This collection will launch sometime in November. Regrettably, I do not have a confirmed date, just yet. Be sure to check back with us as we get closer, for updates.

My friend's store is getting this, and as of yesterday it was still on, but no date as of yet

Thanks Erine!

UGH this lack of info is something else. Since we are getting more and more pics of Rocky Horror and Kinky then I almost really don't care anymore at this point.

I was thinking about that, has there been any promotion from the actual NG aside of things? I figure nothing's happening until they pipe up since I can't imagine the CEO getting a MAC collection and not blasting it everywhere.

There was a collection released online with limited quantities that I was able to find. I'm not sure if you guys are referring to this one or another one but, the collection was released about 5 weeks ago and it had the following lippies:  Romantic Breakdown, Burmese Kiss, Lavender Jade, Forbidden Sunrise. There was also a beauty powder( Summer Opal), nail polishes and an eyeshadow palette (Bao Bao's Jewels).
Yes. That's the.collection I was referring to. The one with Lavender Jade. I would love to get my hands on it.

That's interesting. When I was on the phone with MAC customer service (straightening out a goof up on my VG Rihanna 2 order), Alisha told me when I inquired about the Nal Gal Collection, that MAC had changed their mind; that they weren't told anything further about it. That's when I told her what I had heard about the status of the Nasty Gal corporation and their laying about 27 people off, a restructuring of their company, plus a lot of bad press for their lousey treatment of their employess through numeous sources (such as WWD and others). She was surprised to hear that.

That is good to know! Thanks

Here is an article I found, courtesy of "Racked". Nasty Gal head honcho Sophia Amoruso After news broke that Nasty Gal laid off over 20 employees last week, we looked into the company's Glassdoor reviews to find that many people did not, in fact, enjoy their time working with any of the brand's GirlBosses. After we posted some of the most scathing reviews, anonymous tips started to pour in from alleged past employees who shared the same sentiments. Here's a sampling of what came through the tip line: The layoffs were closer to 30 people and included employees that helped build the brand from the earliest days. Layoffs also included two pregnant women, just to demonstrate the company's class. They hope to break even if they are lucky this year but sales are down SIGNIFICANTLY from last year so doesn't seem likely. This isn't just about restructuring, layoffs are because the business is suffering. They even are going to have to sublet out a portion of their huge new office space because it was such a financial waste. Another tipper gave a more specific number of people laid off, although there are some discrepancies over the number of pregnant women involved: There were a total of 27 people laid off at Nasty Gal last Thursday, August 28, 2014. Nasty Gal let go of 3 pregnant women. One of them is 8 months pregnant and they made her come to the office to let her go. Sophia's friends are still there. Although we don't know what they do or who they report to. But they are still getting paid. One was even promoted to Social Media Manager. The other one was an Intern and now they created a job called "Trend Forecaster." Having worked at Nasty Gal, I think there's a goal behind these posts. 1) They pinpoint the same issue (Executive Management) and former employees hope that the CEO wakes up and fires them all since nothing is changing, their salaries are too high and everyone has confirmed that they're NOT EFFECTIVE. 2) Former employees who spent years of discomfort, fear of being let go and who were constantly disrespected, want to warn future applicants of what type of horrid environment they could be joining. To CEO, I say quit "cleaning house" by letting go of lower level workers and get rid of those useless execs you thought were awesome but actually ended up just being a bunch of self-serving opportunists. · Nasty Gal Employees Say Sophia Amoruso's a Bad GirlBoss [Racked] · Nasty Gal Lays Off Tech and PR Staffers [Racked]
