"It's someone some of you may not know and it will definately, definately be something you won't expect.
Some folks may not be too pleased, but just go with it!
It won't be early in the year. Will be a humourous, campy campaign.
It will be FUN!"

So we are sure it is a woman? I was just thinking about Boy George. After Thumper's quote above, my head is spinning. It is driving me nuts! If it is supposed to be in the fall, you should hear something at the next update right Erine?

Or maybe Carol Channing? Carol Burnett?

that was where that thread started going... they were all guessing men, like bowie and tim curry and john waters. but erine's co-worker said it was a woman so it doesn't seem to be any of those guesses. another guess was phyllis diller which kinda fits the clues but she's a lot older than '50ish' so i have no idea!!

When I hear the description "campy" it makes me think of John Waters. That is who I thought of when this topic came up before. I would love a John Waters collection!

Seriously the suspense is driving me to near crazy!...She is a white actress, in her 50's, campy and fun, not really that well known but still "iconic"...how can they not be that well known yet still be considered an icon....they're toying with my emotions!

my personal MAC icon of all time, is edie sedgwick. she might not have worn MAC products but her makeup has always inspired me. reason being why i loved the muse collection.

kylie would be AMAZING.

Edie Sedgewick omg I would die...she might not have been the best role model or w/e but damn she had a killer sense of style!!! I adore her!

Demi was in the ads for some other make-up line (tiger print mascara, if I'm not mistaken)

When I heard "...will be humorous" it sounds like a comedian? Ohh maybe Kathy Griffin... she's someone you wouldn't expect, and some people will not be too pleased because of her comments/jokes lol She does a lot of charity thigs and everything.

She's 47 almost 48.
I love her, hope its her

If were going that route then what about Tracy Ullman?

Again I highly doubt it.

Demi Moore???
OH GOD, I hope not. She's a decent actress, but Im not too fond of her. Hell, I'll go as far as say I hate her!

She was my least fave of the Brat Pack, all I can think of is her character in St. Elmo's Fire. Which is like the only movie I liked her in...

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

The past icons MAC chose defined eras. Catherine Deneuve, Raquel Welch, Diana Ross, Liza Minelli...they represent a specific period of the past that has defined music and cinema.
I don't think anyone's guess comes close to that. An Angelina Jolie collection would be ridiculous. She doesn't hold the candle. But I do agree with those guessed who said Sophia Loren or Elizabeth Taylor. They are true movie stars. Even Brigitte Bardot who is iconic for her big hair and her eyeliner would've been a good candidate if her current practices didn't overshadow it all.

Try not to think of people that we see in the media all the time. Think of women (or men for that matter) who have defined music and cinema, not only in the present but in the past decades as well.

OK, list of viable* possibles mentioned so far (in the 50+/-, white, female perameters):

Betsey Johnson (pretty likely, IMO)
Bette Midler (pretty likely, IMO)
Suzanne Summers
Jamie Lee Curtis
Farrah Fawcet
Dolly Parton (really likely, IMO)
Bo Derek
Diane Lane (not so likely, IMO)
Meryl Streep
Madonna
Sofia Loren
Goldie Hawn

*Not involved with their own or other cosmetic lines and fit the MAC Icon
mold.

I will poke my eyes out, and that is a grand statement considering the amount of money I have spent on eye shadows, if it is:

Carol Channing
Carol Burnett
Phyllis Diller

***My Official Guess: Dolly Parton***

Just curious as I agree with your assessment.

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

That is just a good formula to go by in general, as it fits the definition of the word.

Thus far, all of the Icons fit into that mold. In other words, that eliminates guesses like Paris, Kim K, Christina Aguilera.

i·con [  kòn ] (plural i·cons)

noun

2. somebody famous for something: somebody or something widely and uncritically admired, especially somebody or something symbolizing a movement or field of activity.

Generally you need bit of time on this planet to gain that kind of acclaim. Damn, I'm 37, I better get working on that acclaim. Clocks tickin'
