Agreed!

Chrissie Hynde would be cool.

Cassandra Peterson also crossed my mind - AKA Elvira. Any thoughts on that?

oh my god i would die. hahaha. i loved her makeup when i was young, it is full-on drag queen technique makeup, but it fit her character so well.

and another thing:

people are tossing out suggestions which is fine. but some of the people that are being suggested have never been really known for their general appearance as well as the things they've accomplished or stand for. raquel welch had a very distinctive cosmetic look, as well as plenty of success in the movie business. liza minelli (however much i hate to say it) was on the cutting edge of fashion back in the 70s with her "cabaret" thing she had going on.. most all of the MAC icons have been women that are seen out in public with a very distinctive look that also seems to mold to their image as an artist, as well as their personality. when christina aguilera worked with viva glam, her makeup was fantastic and continues to be even though she no longer "sponsors" MAC.

i just think it would be more logical to leave people with a somewhat "boring" image (diane lane, jamie lee curtis) out of the picture, also considering the icon has been deemed "campy".

idk. i'm just as curious as everyone. but i have NO idea at this point who it is.

This came from dictionary.com

Camp/Campy

1. something that provides sophisticated, knowing amusement, as by virtue of its being artlessly mannered or stylized, self-consciously artificial and extravagant, or teasingly ingenuous and sentimental.
2. a person who adopts a teasing, theatrical manner, esp. for the amusement of others.
–verb (used without object) 3. Also, camp it up. to speak or behave in a coquettishly playful or extravagantly theatrical manner.
–adjective 4. campy: camp Hollywood musicals of the 1940s.

Hope that helps!

I also wish they would do something with someone like Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, or Jackie Onassis, can you imagine? Have they ever done anything like that before?

Nope, not with any of the people you listed

I agree about Audrey Hepburn, MM, And Jackie O
I guess we can only hope that maybe one day they'll do a collection with some of them.

Audrey Hepburn would be awesome!!! I would love to see that, she had style and beauty and I would totally be into a collection that featured her!!

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

well as i mentioned the "a muse" collection was heavily inspired by edie sedgwick.. if any of you do not know who she is, google her. the color names were generally drawn from some of the andy warhol films she was in, as well as other projects she did, like ciao! manhattan. i'm sure if they can pay homage to edie, who is long gone, they can surely do something for marilyn or audrey sometime down the lane. i'm also sure that since those two in particular inspired so much of the cosmetic world, like marilyn with her beauty mark and red lips and audrey with her bold brows and liner, most definitely there has been some inspiration on their part somewhere in the MAC universe

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

I think it would be cool if it were Dolly Parton, but I heard just a couple of weeks ago that she has her own makeup line coming out. The clues do make it sound like Bette Midler, except for the age.

Ursula Andress crossed my mind. Sophia Loren is a definite. I like the idea of Tina Turner, too. If the icon is Bette, no doubt it would be a fun collection.
