I went to a local MAC counter that was just bringing out the lip bags just as I got there today. From all 3, the only colour I really liked was the Adore It lipstick from the Red lip bag. It's a beautiful sheer primary red in a Glaze finish, which looks surprisingly lovely. (If they would release the colours individually, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.)

To whoever has bought the face brush set, what do you think of the brush bristle quality? is it similar to the full-sized ones?. i know of the man/machine-made difference, but i would like to know if they actually feel the same on your skin. =D thanks x

I am on a budget crunch right now. So I only bought the cool eyes palette. But I even feel guilty doing that

I bought holiday stuff today at a mac store. I bought the eye brush set b/c I didn't see it on the Nordstrom website today, just the other two brush sets. Now it's up on there! D'oh!!! I already recycled the box, too, or else I'd return it. Oh well. My one consolation is that I didn't buy the smokey eye palette since I wasn't interested upon seeing it.

Shadow Palettes
I really like this year's packaging. The red is gorgeous, and the big jewel is really cute. I like that the palettes are plastic but they don't look plastic. They look metal and each one is a different color depending on the 'theme'. Very lightweight overall, especially when compared to last year's palettes. My only complaint is that the raised jewel will definitely be a problem with storing the items (for me anyway), and I am concerned about the plastic jewel getting scratched or scraped.

Devoted Poppy: Classic
The packaging is a pretty warm bright red. The colors are nice but hardly unique overall. Young Thing is a pretty satin creamy highlight color, but sort of chalky. Has a nice satiny sheen to it though. Sweet Eyes is a pretty gold color, a tad deeper than Young Thing. Would make a great highlight or all-over lid color, satin as well. Amorously is a frost and a dirty gold color. It's pretty, but not all that unique. Great lid color though! Awaken is a GORGEOUS gold-green frost. However, it is only gorgeous in the palette because no matter how much I tried to build it on my hand (over Painterly) it just didn't show up or build. It just gave a sheer golden shimmer. Performed similar to a "bad" lustre in my opinion. Fall Deeply is a gorgeous bright blue frost. One of the better colors of this palette, but seems awfully close to Freshwater (permanent). I didn't think of it at the time to swatch them next to each other though. In Awe is definitely my favorite color of this palette, but I don't love it enough to get it and be stuck with the rest of the colors. It is a deep black velvet with subtle black shimmer. Think in between Suspicion (Nocturnelle, a black with subtle gold pearl) and Smoking (Smoke Signals, black with intense gold shimmer).

Intriguing Scarlet Warm palette
The Warm palette comes in a shiny medium tone red compact. I love this one! Sweet Joy is a creamy golden frost. It's like a cross between Grain and Nylon. The perfect white gold highlight. Warm Suede is a super smooth veluxe pearl. A golden green olive color, very similar to Sumptuous Olive at first glance, but when swatched next to each other, Warm Suede is the winner. It's got a creamier consistency and more color payoff, and just sooo pretty!! Well Spiced is a satin, a very warm orangey-peach brown. Similar to Texture. When swatched next to each other though Well Spiced is just... prettier. They're similar but I liked Well Spiced better. The downside to the Warm Palette is Gentle Heat. A grey brown taupe. It is a satin but it has no shimmer, and applies very matte with little color payoff. It's the most unique color (no real dupe that I could find) but it is also really boring, I wasn't impressed. Real Drama is a gorgeous deep red wine color. I swatched it next to Sketch and it is SO much more red!! Sketch looks purple in comparison. It is a satin but it looks more like a velvet, frost, or veluxe pearl. I'm very impressed with this color, very buildable, and soooo pretty! Last but definitely not least is Grand Entrance (not from Starflash), another satin that doesn't seem like a satin. It's a deep vivid shimmery green. I thought at first that it was Humid, but it is much deeper, with more dimension. It's very warm toned but I can't put my finger on what makes it so pretty! Maybe it has alot of blue in it where as Humid has slightly more yellow? I don't know but Grand Entrance is sooooo awesome. You guys have to go touch it. It really excites me.

That's all for now, hopefully I can continue my lil review tonight! I need to go do an art project!!

Palettes review continued

Infatuating Rose: Cool
This palette is definitely the most unique looking when it comes to packaging. Instead of a red tone, a purpley pinky fuschia-y color was chosen. Very pretty, but I can understand if some may not like the color choice. It's very bold and less classic/classy than the other colors in the collection. The shadows themselves are alright. Nothing compared to last year's Cool palette which was PERFECTION as I'm sure the owners of it know. It's a decent palette but a little underwhelming.

Satisfy is a pretty creamy peachy pink lustre. Nice but not very unique, but goes well with the palette. Cacort is a very cool toned grey purple. It's a satin so it has a slight sheen without being metallic. It reminds me of the new eyeshadow from the Ungaro collection called Lilac Touch. Bon Fete is a beautiful neutral peachy pink. It's a veluxe pearl so it has a texture to die for, and has a really pretty pearlized pigment shimmer/frost. Platonic is a frost but less frosty looking than most frosts in my opinion. It has alot of grey in it, but it was easy to build so that's nice. Feast is definitely the color everyone has been watching. It is a velvet, and plummy reddish pink with sparkles. It's the color that caught my eye first. However, as with most velvets, it is hard to build up because it's such a hard formula, and it's difficult to get the sparkles to show up. It's still a beautiful color and would make a great outer lid or crease color on almost anyone. It actually makes me think of Viva Glam VI, only in an eyeshadow form! Last we have Deep Feelings, a deep deep black-purple/blue. This shadow is so chalky!! I guess that's just how mattes are, but even with Painterly on my hand I had trouble getting it to blend evenly. Maybe it applies differently on lids with a brush, but it just didn't work! It's such a pretty color, but they should have made it a satin, or better yet, a matte2. That would have been perfecctt. Overall it's a lovely palette, but very boring in my opinion. Great for someone that likes neutral/cool shades.

Fascinating Ruby: Smoky
Last but not least for the eyes this holiday season, we have the Smoky Eyes palette. It comes in a deep reddish crimson compact. Dark and mysterious, just like the look the eyeshadows give you!

Inside, you will find the six eyeshadows. First we have Scant, a frosted yellow-cream. It has a gentle pinky opalescence, so it reminds me of a less dramatic Pink Opal (pigment). Very cool. Gorgeous is a pale white-silver frost. It is Rondelle(Danse 06, Smoke Signals 07, Metallic palette 07)'s twin. They both apply bright and clean, but I do think that Gorgeous is slightly more grey, but they are close enough. Next we have Satin Taupe, which is permanent and one of my FAVORITE colors ever. It's a beautiful cool brown-taupe with silver frostyness. It applies very smooth, and it's so pretty, one of MAC's most popular shades. Some people dislike it, but I for one loooove it. Perfect for a smokey eye, either all over the lid or as a crease and liner. Ambiance is a velvet and Grey Fume (Smokey palette 06, Smoke Signals 07)'s doppelganger. A slightly metallic mid-tone dirty grey with silver sparkles. It is hard to build and hard to blend, much like it's twin, Grey Fume. I'm not impressed by this color. It's alright, but Silver Ring is a much better choice for a dirty grey/silver. Dark Devotion is a satin and Oh-So-Pretty! It applies surprisingly even and opaque for a matte. However, it is Showstopper (Dianna Ross 04?, Smoke Signals 07, Warm palette 07) with a new name, no kidding. It's a deep black-brown. Sooo beautiful on anyone! Can be used as a liner, crease color, even lid color for alot of drama. Can go with anything. But if you have Showstopper you already have it. Lastly we have Carbon, which is MAC's classic black matte eyeshadow. A staple in my collection, and I for one have SOOO many already. It is repromoted very often, just like Satin Taupe, and here's another time MAC is shoving it down our throats. I swear, if someone doesn't have Carbon by now they don't want it MAC! However, it does go lovely with the rest of the palette.

A note about the Smoky palette this year is that it is like a combination of the two smoky palettes included in Smoke Signals 07, the problem being they didn't include the more unique colors of the two quads (Smoking from Smoking eyes, and Waft from Gentle Fume eyes). The point is, if you already own those two palettes, you don't need this new one at all, and chances are if you are into this type of look and an avid MAC collector, you already have these shades in one form or another. Just wanted to point that out!

Lip palettes

Devoted Poppy: Coral
I didn't pay much attention to the packaging of the lip palettes, so I didn't notice if they're different from the eyeshadows. I'd assume that this one, would be the same color as the Classic eyes palette? I'm not sure.

This one is VERY pretty. My favorite of the holiday lip palettes. It includes two lipstick shades and a lipglass. I love how they look together, but they should have called this the warm pink lip palette, because while they look very coral in the palette, they apply much more pink (than they look). Devoted is a sheer warm peach-pink lustre, and Soft Talk is a slightly brighter reddish coral-pink. They're gorgeous but I would have loved if a brighter orangey-coral was included, or if Soft Talk applied the way it looks like it would, I guess I am just disappointed. But they're very pretty colors and would look very subtle and natural on pale girls, just a small pop of color on the lips. The lipglass is a sheer gold called Transparent Love. The standard gold lipglass.

Fascinating Ruby: Plum
I assume that this is packaged in the same color as the Smoky palette.

Marvel is a sheer pinky-brown plum lustre with a slight gold pearlized finish, and Insinuate is a deeper mauvey purple plum with a subtle purpley pearlized pigment finish. They're sooo pretty! I want to put them on a black girl SO bad. They'd look so natural but like... enhanced. They're so pretty. The lipglass is a neutral plum with golden pearlized pigments.

Intriguing Scarlet: Cool Pink
Similar packaging to Warm Eyes palette.

Includes Overjoyed, a sheer baby pink lustre (sooo cute!), and Make Me Melt, a mid-tone dirty plum-pink frost. They're cute but not all that unique to me. I love the gloss, Sheer Vision. It's a clear gloss with intense white shimmer, similar to the Lustre finish on Pro Long Wear Lustres. Subtle enough to go with ANY lip color!

Hope that helps you guys that are unable to see the collection in person and not sure of what to order!!

That was my favourite part of the collection! I loved how each palette was a different shade of red, depending on whether the colours inside were a bit cooler or more plum. Someone had a great idea with that one!
