MAC & Marcel Wanders - Luxe Couture Discussion

I haven't swatches these in store yet (Thursday?), but I'm so lemming Gesina and Catharina, they look stunning. The price is so steep though, and I don't seem to be making a dent in my 25 other MAC lipsticks, so I'm not sure I can justify it even if you do get more product than in regular lipsticks. Thankfully nothing else from this collection is calling to me. I'm still happy with the Baroque Boudoir powder compact, that one is breathtaking.

I wish I knew how to finish my lipsticks super fast.

I just found out that my contract at work got extended for another month, until the end of the year... You know what that means!

I'll be hitting the store tomorrow with high hopes and disposable income!

Okay, I am broke for a few more days, but has anyone tried the solid fragrance? It might be worth the money since you can wear the container! Plus, free shipping...

The only review I've seen was Temptalia's. She described it as strongly scented with jasmine, particularly when first applied. She also said that it faded fairly quickly on her. I guess even if you didn't like the perfume, it's not a bad price to pay for a pendant... If you like the perfume, it's sort of a bonus...

OK, I made the mistake of taking The Great Enabler with me to go shopping, which means I ended up with more than I intended. The collection is small but very classy. I have to wonder, though, if the person who thought up the design for the displayer was thinking quite clearly. It's a very nice looking piece, but the problem is that to see the product- other than some samples attached to the front- you have to open it. There is nothing that indicates that it opens and, apparently, the MAs had a hell of a time figuring it out as well. I like to think I'm smarter than your average bear, but I never would have thought to start pulling at panels of the displayer to see if there was product inside... But, hey, it looks beautiful.

A word of warning for those of you who are interested: My pro store got as few as three units per item. since either one or two have to go in the display case... That means you have one saleable item. Catharina was already gone (I wasn't planning on getting it, but TGE really loved it, so I guess I dodged a bullet) and I bought the only perfume they had to sell. They did, apparently, get a lot of the brushes, so she said there was no problem there.

Anyway, here goes a recap with some pictures... I'm going to post these in separate bits, so sorry if it looks like I'm carpet bombing...

The photo doesn't do Gertruyd justice- it doesn't look like it hangs in lip lines so much when it's on. Aleydis is also more pigmented than it appears, although it's pretty sheer.

Gertruyd reminds me a little of a sheerer version of A Different Groove from LoL, while Aleydis is kind of like a cross between True Babe and Revenge is Sweet.

All the glosses are quite sheer, and feel a lot like Cremesheen glasses to me. This is the same formula that they used for the glosses in last year's luxe collection.

I really loved the lipsticks, although the neutral one is kind of meh. The formula is incredible, it's so creamy it really does feel luxurious. I ended up getting two, but probably would have grabbed Catharina as well (it's pretty close to Full Fuchsia, so if you have that, you don't need this one).

Here are Gesina and Digna together:

And here is a comp of Gesina with Utter Fun (top) and Fusion Pink (bottom). Gesina is redder and more opaque than the former, less orange than the latter and without the distinctive sheen.

And here it is on lips :

Here's a comp of Digna with other dark lippies. I limited it because my arm isn't long enough to swatch it with all the dark lipsticks I have, but if there's one you'd like to see, chances are I have it, so just ask. From the top: Dark Side, Digna, Media, KIttenish

I have to say that I'm in love with this colour. It's redder than either DS or Media and a little lighter in both colour and opacity. It's an absolutely gorgeous dark red. I was prepared for it to be something that I got just because I have to get all the dark lippies, but this one is special. It stopped me in my tracks when I swatched it.

A word to the wise about all these swatches: The light in my bathroom (where these were taken, because it's the only room in the place with white walls), skus VERY yellowish. I tried to correct that a little, but I wanted to get the shots up right away. So keep in mind that all of these colours are showing warmer than they actually are.

And finally, a word about the perfume: It does smell like jasmine, as Temptalia mentioned, but there are other notes as well. It's very floral and feminine, but it's also a pretty strong scent. The packaging is particularly adorable on this one. It reminds me a little of Christian Dior's Poison, but it's not nearly that pungent- I would guess that there are some similar notes.

I also got the mascara, but I haven't tried it yet, since I'm still wearing today's Opulash... Maybe I'll try wearing two mascaras- one on each eye- tomorrow to see if I can see a clear difference.

Thanks for the kind words ladies!

I didn't get to snap a picture before I left (one of the dangers of being perpetually slow in the morning), but I'm wearing the False Lashes mascara. Oh my god my lashes... They're HUGE!

I have to say that I was a little skeptical when I saw the brush, because it's pretty small. I've always found that you get the best effect from larger brushes like Opulash or Benefit's Bad Gal, but I stand corrected. The small brush means that the lashes get nicely separated and the sweep upward is beautiful. My lashes tend to curl a bit naturally, so it's difficult for me to judge how much of an effect the mascara has that way, but they do seem to have more of a curl than usual.

This is an aptly named product, because I think I could convince someone that I was wearing falsies.
