MAC - Stylistics Discussion

Re: Stylistics Discussion

I used Live Chat to ask about my previous questions, here's the results for anyone who is interested. Looks like I'll be getting the Model Chic Mystery Powder but the jury is still out on Soft Pout.

Melissa: Hi Sara! I just had a few questions about the Stylistics Collection
Sara: Hi Melissa! Sure, I'm happy to help you today.
Melissa: Thanks

Firstly I was wondering if there were any colors similar to the Soft Pout lipstick in the permanent line or past collections?

Sara: The intensity is similar to Viva Glam V, but more peachy.
Melissa: Ok, thanks! Now I have a question about the Sheer Mystery Powders
Melissa: I don't usually wear MAC foundations, powders, etc. but I vary between Porcelain and Nude in Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser. Would Model Chic be appropriate for paler skin?
Sara: Yes, shade MODEL CHIC will be the right shade for you if you have a fair to medium skintone. MAC Sheer Mystery Powder provides a velvety, natural-matte finish. Spherical powders refract light to minimize the appearance of skin's imperfections. Packaged in a gunmetal grey compact with black stones embedded on the top, it comes with a puff applicator and 1 powder refill.
Sara: Click here for the MAC Collections page.
Melissa: Great, thanks! Final question: do you know when this collection and the Signature Bags will be released in Australia?
Sara: Stylistics will be available at David Jones (Sydney & Bourke St) in Dec 2007. You may want to call the store to see if they have an official launch date. The Signature Bags will be available at all international locations in Dec as well.
Sara: Click here for the Find Stores page.
Melissa: Ok, no problem, I'll give them a call today. Thanks for all your help

Re: Stylistics Discussion

Went to the unveiling event and caved in and bought a lipstick (was supposed to be Soft Pout, but later found out the MA gave me In Vogue. eh), a lipglass (Conversational), and a sheer mystery powder in Model Chic. I'm a sucker for pretty packaging and they certainly look very nice in person, compared to the Royal Asset's collection.

Didn't get to see the clutch up close, as there were too many people and I couldn't wait to get out of there, but it's not bad. It isn't too cheap-looking at least. Not something I would buy at CA$85.00 though. Then again, I'm going back to Hong Kong soon. With the exchange rate the way it is now for Canadian dollars and the easy access to China manufactured goods in Hong Kong, most things would seem unnecessarily expensive. I mean, with CA$85 I can buy at least five clutches of similar quality in Hong Kong. It's not like people can recognize the clutch being from MAC either. Anyway...

Kinda disappointed in the sheerspark pressed powder. Not very fond of chunky glitters, and the texture isn't exactly amazing. Some like Pave hardly have any colour payoff aside from the glitter, and darker ones like Fashionette don't blend very well. Kind of just clumps there on my skin. Probably from everyone using their fingers on the displayed makeup (ew finger oil). I'm not sure.

A few things....
According to my update book this collection will be released in all MAC stores, all Saks locations and exclusive Nordstrom locations. (Of course we don't get it at Macy's, we always get screwed.)

I was also told that employees would not recieve discount on it at all. Reading that it will go on discount for us after the 13th is news to me. I wonder if they'll sell out of the Sheer Mystery powder before then. I'll have to go in and see how much of it they have. I'm actually willing to fork out the $49 because the compact is SO beautiful. Not to mention the powder is gorgeous. I tried it on at update it was so soft and gave a nice amount of coverage. I hate wearing damn near anything on my face so for me to like it that much says a lot. I should add that I'm an NC15 and the powder was a great color for me, not too dark.
If I had the money I'd buy the clutch too, so cute.

Yes, I did an online chat yesterday to ask about the sheersparks and the online artist told me they are very sparkly, way more sparkly than the Of Beauty loose beauty powders. That was enough to kill them for me. I don't really understand why MAC doesn't seem to make anything that imparts a glowy look without visible sparkles - it would sure be a nice option for some of us. Maybe I'm missing something?

Re: Stylistics Discussion

When I first saw this collection, I thought the packaging was yummy. I'd love to get my hands on that bag, but I blew my wad on the Holiday Collection,
ssad.gif
so will have to be content with a lipstick, Sheerspark Powder and maybe the lipbrush. If the quality of this collection is similar to Couture, it will be luxurious indeed!

I am not an MA,but on a trip to the MAC counter a month ago my fave MA there showed me a bottle from her training kit and it smells so good-kind of like gardenias-real pretty.

PRO discount applies to everything except the bag and the perfume which sucks cause the bag and perfume are what i really wanted!

Re: Stylistics Discussion

I honestly don't like this new launch. The prices are insane and Im pretty darn sure mac has other colors just like it in their permanent collection. Like seriously, nothing stands out from it aside from the pearl finishes on the compact. Is that what we are paying double for?

I'll pass on this one.

Re: Stylistics Discussion

Bernadette,

I was told by my manager that we do get our discount on this collection. We just have to wait two weeks after the launch date. I don't know if it's different in your region but it shouldn't. I go in tomorrow and I am going to ask and make sure.

I'm NC15 also and went ahead and ordered Sheer Mystery Powder in Model Chic as I was afraid it might sell out. Funny though, I did a live chat and asked about the finish and coverage and this is what she replied: [Mystery Powder provides a velvety, natural-matte finish. Spherical powders refract light to minimize the appearance of skin's imperfections. It evens and perfects the skin. Select Sheer provides more coverage, is less matte, and also comes in skin tones.] I found it odd that she said Select Sheer has more coverage, is this your take on it?

I can't decide on the brushes. I really want them because they look so pretty but whose going to see them in my bathroom? I want to show them off and my husband doesn't give a rat's ass and I have to keep my brushes enclosed or my cats will want to eat them. But I feel myself getting weaker and may just have to cave. I skipped last year's couture.

Re: Stylistics Discussion

So I went to Bendel's to get my Stylistics and they told me that they were having shipping problems and they didn't have any product there yet!!! Grrr!!!
angry.gif
Luckily, they had testers of the Sheerspark Pressed Powder and the Lipgloss, but I must say I was a little disappointed. The packaging was GORGEOUS but the product was a little disappointing. The Sheerspark Pressed Powder was very tiny and very glittery and the Lipgloss was very sheer. But I really, really loved the packaging so I'm probably going to go back and get the Sheer Mystery Powder.
