Always go to the Confrimed trainings, the vendors are useally rad about gratis. This week I went to a cargo and a fresh training. I got the 10yr ani set from cargo and from fresh we got the appleseed peel set (big score) Even if it's your days off, go to the trainings. You will learn alot and get lot's of goodies!!!!!

I am considering applying for a position at Sephora. I have over 1 year in retail experience (but only about 5 months in retail with skincare and makeup), and strong (I hope!) references. I love doing makeovers, and I'd love to be a color specialist...how can I increase my chances of getting the job?

Also, what are the hours like? Are they flexible? I'm a student hehe.

I just started at sephora yesterday. I had no experience in makeup/cosmetics/skincare, and only about a year total in retail experience, and I was hired quite quickly. I was sure to mention that I'm very goal oriented in the field, and that I was pursuing further education in cosmetology and aesthetician school. My store director told me that the reason she knew she would hire me was because I always looked very polished and professional, even when I just came in to pick up the application and ask about the job. And that I was open to education and training and that I was career oriented in working with Sephora and not just looking for it as a "job."
I'm pretty sure all the stores are hiring for seasonal right now, and seasonal usually leads to being permanent if you do a good job. The training is amazing, I can't go to SOS (Science of Sephora) until January because they don't have a session during the winter season, but it's a very intense weeklong training to get you very intuned with the "Sephora culture." A lot of the girls I'm going to be working with are aestheticians or have worked in make up before, but it's not 100% necessary, because even if you have years of experience, you're going to get a ton of training.

I like the idea of intense training. I work at The Body Shop, and for our latest makeup launch, we only had 1 day of training, along with some quick reading to do.
I'm really getting even more excited to apply. I plan to visit the store on a day when its not busy (Monday maybe) so that I'll be more likely to be able to really talk to the manager. I'll be sure to look polished and professional of course...I hope I get some bonus points because I'm a marketing major and one of my possible career routes is doing the advertising and promoting of makeup and skincare lines

. So cross your fingers for me guys!

if the store director isn't there, ask to speak to the director in charge. they work with each other and can answer any questions. when i first went in for my application, i spoke to the DIC and asked when the store director would be in so that i could drop it off face to face.

how's MAC treating you? i couldn't wait on them anymore, I'm so pissed. They just hired like 5 girls at the store I applied at, and I never even got a phone call. And whenever I called they couldn't find my application. Bitches...

but yeah lol how do you like your new job?

I started on saturday and i LOVED it. I'm only working weekends right now but it's so much fun.

Did you apply at other locations? Here I went through the recruiter, it's something new they have in my area. She kept calling and checking on me to see if i had gotten calls or what the progress was with my interviews.

I applied at a mac freestanding and two nordstrom counters, and i never heard back from any of them. but i live in san diego california, which is probably as competitive as los angeles or new york as far as jobs at high end make up stores/counters.

i'm gonna be sooo pissed if they suddenly call me for an interview after i'm good and comfortable at sephora. oh well, maybe i'm just not ready. maybe next year or something i'll apply again.

Advice please- interview :)

Hello!
I´m new here
wavey.gif
and i was hoping you could give me some sort of advice. I read most of the Faq´s before posting.
winks.gif

I am a mua based in europe and i´ve been called for an interview, by Sephora, to work for an exclusive makeup brand of theirs.

The lady who called me wasn´t very specific, but she told me that maybe i would be asked to do an eye makeup (not full face), which left me with more questions...
(english is not my mother language, so sorry if i am not expressing myself in the best of ways)

1st question:
Would you just apply concealer and powder in the eye area (where the makeup is going to be applied)?
I am not asking about specific techniques, those i already know, but i´ve never been asked to do just an eye!
hmm.gif

2nd question:
Would you touch the face with your hands, or this is an absolute no no, considering this to be client orientated?

3rd question:
Would you bring along your book? (i read somewhere here that this isn´t a must, but i couldn´t figure if people didn´t bring it along because they didn´t have it, or because it´s simply not needed.

4th question:
What would you wear, i´m thinking something more stylish but that is not very exagerated?
I am thinking black but not all black, since it´s not for Mac, and also because i feel more me in a partial black at least for an interview.

5th question:
What do you think she´ll ask that is more tricky?

Thank you so much in advance

I´ll be drinking your wise words

I think on the eye I would use a base... every line pretty much has one
i would stay away from touching people's faces and make sure you use hand sanitizer before starting, I don't think it's a huge no no but just try to avoid it and be as clean as possible
I would say wear all black and have your makeup looking fierce, because sephora girls wear all black uniforms as well and it draws more attention to your face
hth good luck!

#1: I'd do primer, concealer, and powder.

#2: Avoid touching your client's face as much as possible. When I need to rest my hand on their cheek, or tug their eyelid to apply eyeliner, I place a cotton round wherever my hand would otherwise come in contact with their face. But yes, definitely make sure to do the hand sanitizer!!

#3: I don't think it would *hurt* to bring your book if you have one.

#4: I've always read that, when going to a job interview, wear something a couple notches above what you will be wearing on the job. How bout nice black pants, a cute (yet professional) blouse, and a really nice sweater or blazer over that?

#5: I don't know about questions she'd ask...but I think one big tip I can give you (that I've heard repeated countless times here at Specktra) is to walk your client through what you are doing. You are applying for a sales position as well as an MA position. Be sure to say things like 'Right now I am using Urban Decay's Primer Potion on your lids. This is a fabulous base for your shadows. It prevents creasing or fading, and makes your shadow color really pop.'

HTH, and best of luck!!

PS: Your English is just fine
