The brush is really pretty but yes rough and the hairs are already falling out on mine. The mirror as well... meh. But the bag is lovely. too bad the blush is half-size as well.
SE brushes are absolute crap. I really think you can toss it. There's nothing that makes me madder than shedding rough bristles touching my face!!

I think a half-sized blush can be useful though... very portable. Also, I have a personal penchant for tiny things... makes me feel like a giant mwahaha.

Do I smell a possible swap? *hint hint*

Or I can just wait a couple of months and pray that someone takes their set apart and put the stuff they don't want on ebay. That's how I got the eyeshadow duo with Woodsmoke and Baby It's Cold from the Glitter and Ice holiday collection.

I got Talk of the Town. The MAC description is soooo waaaaay off: “warm brown base with yellow bronze”, my hind quarters! After reading that i was sure it would be a bronze that would not work on me at all. In reality, it is a sheer, pale, warm pink with amazing golden shimmer. Well, shimmer is really the wrong word. There are no glittery bits in it. It just glows when the light hits it. I think it's probably better for those with a warm complexion, but could work on some with a cool complexion. On me, 15-20 Neutral, it is a blush - definitely adds color - and a highlight all in one. On a darker complexion i suspect it will just be a highlight, but a gorgeous one.

I also bought Center of Attraction; i haven't used it yet, but i did test it. It's basically a two-tone highlighter. Since i have a "thing" for gold makeup, i couldn't pass it up - in fact, i originally thought it would be the ONLY MSF i'd get from this collection. The main light color is like TotT in that it is sheer and pale but has an amazing glow - lest i confuse anyone, it is a completely different color than TotT. Meanwhile, the darker part is VERY gold and does have some sparkly bits in it, so it's only a highlighter and not for all over the face. If you don't like bits in your makeup, you won't like this part much. But do test the lighter part. I think it's pretty and pretty special. This one, i suspect, is only for warm complexions. But if you have a reason to wear gold makeup, this is a good thing to have in your cosmetic arsenal.

Yeah, the brush sets always seem a bit lower quality than the individual MAC brushes.

That's because they are. The only thing that's the same between the sets (and all SE brushes) and full-brushes are the lacquered wooden handles. Everything else, from the ferrules to the brush hairs, is sub-par materials.

That being said, I never have and never will purchase a MAC brush set. They always felt scratchy on the displays....now I know why.

I put on Flair for Finery lipstick today. It's quite pale, but the color is good on me. I think i may need to use a liner with it, though - i have Stone and Hip 'n' Happy, either of which i think will work if i blend well. Then i did my face and used Talk of the Town blush, yet again! I keep wearing that one! it has some similarities to my loves Blonde and Redhead, although not as frosty. Then put Captivating on my eyes. And lined them top and bottom with Stares and Speculations.

The end result just lacked contrast. So i used Private Party lipglass on my lips instead, and put Omega (matte taupe brown) on my crease and outer lid because i had it handy. That was better, although not my best makeup combo, but i had to get out of the house and didn't have time to play more.

I'm still loving TotT blush. But i need to stop making up my face exclusively out of my bag of Divine Night goodies and crack open some more colors! The individual items are fine, i just need more contrast, especially on my eyes. Pale and pale gold everywhere is pretty, but too flat. I may also pull out my Chanel Notorious for a bit more dimension. Still very happy with this collection.

smh and to think if i had been silly enuf I would have bought the holiday set. The mac lady was tryna sell me on them so hard, sayin they were exactly the same as the reg. brushes, just smaller...

I like it, but i'm a pale face with bluish-pink lips. But even on me, i think i need a liner 'cuz it almost blends into my skin tone. Definitely not easy to wear, but for me a lovely color.

It's always surprised me that you can send them back if you don't like them, if we could do that here people would buy first and decide later if they like it or not!!
I'm not judging anyone, in fact I'm glad that people can take advantage of that here in the US but I personally feel too embarrassed to return something I've already used or swatched even if it was just once; I would rather give it to my mom or something.
Being able to return cosmetics is comparatively recent, well at least for me, at over 60 years. Certainly couldn't do that in the 1950s-80s, and i suspect the 90s - but i'm not sure when it started here in the US.

I prefer not to return something - it will be destroyed - such a waste! But if it irritates my skin or eyes, why should i be forced to keep it - that's throwing money away. That's why i prefer to test. Even so, i bought a MAC foundation, after testing it in-store (the MUA put it on my face and it looked OK at the beginning), and then i found that it made me look as if i had wrinkles that i don't have - made my skin look like parched, cracked earth! So it went back. The comparatively new MAC Mineralize foundation is the only one that i can wear, the rest are too drying and too matte.

Still i think that's rather different than testing a lipstick, buying it, wearing it a few times, then deciding you're not crazy about the color (it can happen - note i said testing first - i know ordering blind is a different issue). Or buying a load of stuff, wearing it to a party, then taking it all back. Ugh. I bet some people do that...

In reply to myself, Nordstrom has LONG had a policy of taking pretty much everything back. But that was not typical of most places.

She flat out lied to you, and she knows it too! All the artists know that they arent the same quality! The ferrules on the sets and SE brushes are made of aluminum which dent easily, vs nickel on the full-sized brushed. And as for the hairs, the sets and SEs are made of a mixture of natural and synthetic vs natural (full-sized) and a lesser quality synthetic vs synthetic (full-sized). Faaaaaaaar from the same! As i always say, they're great for starter brush sets for people first starting out with brushes and for travel sets. But for everyday use, no.

It has microshimmer when applied, not chunky glitter.

I don't agree about NARS New Order. I have it. It is a VERY cool pink, almost lavender, and has gold and silver sparkles. I can get some color out of it before i turn into a glitter bomb.

Talk of the Town, by contrast, is a warm pink, and it doesn't take much to give me color - definitely an almost natural blush color - except for its sheen. The sheen is gold, and no annoying glitter fallout. NARS has glitter fallout, but i love the lavender-pink, and i can live with its glitter fallout. I do agree that TotT is related to Blonde - or even Redhead - and Porcelain Pink.
